It looks like there will be a snow-sleet event this weekend across the Mid Mississippi River Valley region, on into the Ohio Valley.
For the Alton Metropolitan/STL Area, the event looks largely to be a snow event. However, the temperatures are forecast to be at a little warmer in the atmosphere aloft over St. Louis to be sure. So, there is a chance for some sleet to be mixed in with the snow. Remember, this is only a midweek outlook. This could change. But that's how it appeared early today.
That stated, it looks to be a LONG period of winter precipitation, starting late on Saturday night and going until early on Monday morning, with mainly periods of light snow, with some moderate snow. It looks to be a wet snow to the southern half of the storm track.
Plan accordingly. If you must travel, keep your winter clothes, extra blankets, food, water, and keep your cell phone charged if you plan to go for an extended drive.
[I, for one, may have a long drive on Sunday - from Alton to Pana IL. If we have an all day snow event, it certainly will be snow in Pana, as the temps look to be snow temps there. BUT - they will probably get more snow than the Alton area, so, I may have a hard time following Route 16 if the IDOT plows don't keep up with the snowfall.]
Keep an eye out for the updates. The TV meteorologists will be all over this one because of its expected duration.
