Hello everybody!
It's been a long, long, time since I wrote on this blog with something other than the Alton Metropolitan Area Weather forecast. And today seems a must to write just a tad.
According to this morning's FORECAST DISCUSSION, an isolated tornado or two could be coming along with the convection that will bring rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms late in the morning (already happening in Northeast Missouri and Western Illinois as I type this shortly after 9:15 am CDT) to early afternoon. It would be possible to have 60(+) mph winds and hail with these rounds of storms. I say rounds, as it may be more than just the line that is showing on the STL LSX RADAR right now. It appears to be one of those days when we could be seeing many rounds of storms, but the most severe weather will be with the initial and somewhat organized front coming down from Iowa and through both Missouri and Illinois.
THE HEAT:
Today, due to the organized front, temperatures will ramp up this morning, but not reach to the middle 90s as it did on Monday. (Which, apologies to those who've been reading and expecting a Monday forecast - but I ran into a busy day that kept me from posting yesterday.) Apparently, the forecast models for Wednesday are in disagreement on what the timing will be of a cold front drifting through the region. Thus, they are unsure of the temperatures for Wednesday at this point in time. That said - the NWS expects some return to the heat, giving us a good chance at some popping thunderstorms again, as the moisture, instability, and convection may find a place in our area. Now, if you're a fan of heat, that means you'll still get some. If you're a fan of booming thunderstorms, you'll probably get some. In all, tomorrow gives us a chance at some interesting conditions once again. For many of us weather geeks - a situation we just don't complain about any day of the week. For the regular joes, they may say "we hate this type of weather." And who's to blame? Not the forecasters or the prognosticators.
Anyway - keep an eye to the sky and on your phones (especially if you're like me and get the IWIN Watches and warnings) today and tomorrow and later this week.
